Main road No 8 Várpalota bypass
Basic Data:
Client: NIF Zrt.
Contractor: SDD Konzorcium
Budget: 28 000 000 000 HUF
Start/end of works: 12.09.2014 – 19.02.2018.
Project brief:
The Várpalota bypass was constructed in two phases with 2×2 lane widths, with a stabilized breakdown lane, typically 22.50 m wide, 3.5 m wide traffic lanes, with additional turn lanes as required near interchanges.
In phase I, between sections 23+900 – 29+700 km, 1 grade separated junctions, 2 railway bridges and 3 grade separated crossings, underpass with a reinforced concrete bridge over the main road 8 and a track guidance with temporary uses were built. The track structure of railway bridges is a reinforced concrete slab working in parallel steel beams.
The project has completed the correction of road 7207, the Várpalota by-pass and the Circuit link (Crossroads), as well as the planned dirt roads.
During Phase II, 2 at-grade junctions, 2 roundabouts, 1 separate at-grade junction, 1 underpass with reinforced concrete bridge and 1 pedestrian and cycle underpass were built between sections 29+700 – 33+100 km. Existing overpasses were upgraded over the Szekesfehervár-Szombathely 20 railway line and the Péti water. Near the latter is the traditionally named “Roman Wall” (a retaining wall built in Middle Ages supporting the embankment of the No 8 road – officially named Öskü Lake Kikeri).
